Today, I’m really excited to announce that NexHealth made its first acquisition, Enlive. Enlive provides EHR integrated digital forms solutions for doctors and dentists which eliminate the countless paper forms we all have to fill out with every visit. NexHealth and Enlive, together, means doctors, dentists, and developers have an end-to-end EHR integrated Patient Experience solution to digitize patient experiences.

NexHealth is a series A stage company with only 60 people, so why are we acquiring companies?

2020 has been a paradigm shifting year for digital healthcare. COVID shutdowns shocked the industry into adopting digital tools at an unprecedented rate and we saw massive investments pour into health tech. This tremendous digital adoption has strained the “plumbing” for how we access and connect healthcare data, which is still mostly stored on-prem in doctor’s offices.

As a result, our product and mission became more important than ever. Our business exploded while our team executed flawlessly. Going into 2021, we believe that now is the time to strategically accelerate our mission.

Our mission at NexHealth is to accelerate healthcare innovation by connecting patients, doctors, and developers. Our core technology is an EHR integration API powering 3 products and serving 3 audiences. These products are:

  1. SaaS Patient Experience solution for SMB doctors’ offices helping them digitize their patients’ experiences with features like real-time online scheduling, patient communication, payments, and now digitized forms. These features are bidirectionally integrated with their (mostly) on-prem EHR systems.
  2. Universal EHR Integration API that helps developers integrate with multiple EHR systems with just one restful API. Our SaaS product is also built on this API.
  3. Consumer facing features helping patients schedule, text, and pay their doctors automatically integrated with the doctor’s EHR system.

The underlying technology powering all of our user facing products is our bidirectional EHR integration API. Today, our users come to us for our technology. In the future, we want them to stay for our platform, which connects doctors, developers, and patients through an incredibly powerful flywheel.

  • As a consumer you should be able to connect with your dentist, dermatologist, primary care physician all from one place (book your appointment, message them, share your medical records etc.), but at the same time connect to all your other healthcare stakeholders like your bluetooth toothbrush, or your aligner treatment, or your digital pharmacy.
  • As an SMB healthcare practice you should be able to unlock your on-prem EHR patient data to digitize your patient experience with NexHealth’s solution, but also connect that data to all your other vendors like your VOIP phone service, or your website/SEO vendor. In addition to having all your EHR data always synchronized with all your vendors through NexHealth, you will go from an on-prem integration/implementation process of 60+ days with each of your vendors to just a few clicks with NexHealth.
  • As a developer, you should be able to build your EHR integrated products in a few weeks with NexHealth instead of 18+ months, and then also gain distribution to customers through NexHealth.

Our flywheel kicks off with an EHR integration. Having an additional integration means we can sell our SaaS product to more doctors. Acquiring more doctors means we acquire more patients (the doctor’s patients are automatically onboarded to NexHealth). Having an additional EHR integration also means more developers sign up as they find the quantity of EHR integrations valuable. As we have more integrations, doctors sign up, more patients sign up, and so do more developers.

In the short term, in order to kick start our long term flywheel platform play we have 2 goals: 1) support as many EHR integrations as possible 2) acquire as many doctors as possible. The more integrations we have, the more doctors sign up, and so do more developers and patients. Enlive helps us accelerate these two goals by 12+ months, adding more integrations and more doctors to our platform.

Our long term vision is to accelerate healthcare innovation by connecting patients, doctors, and developers. Enlive helps us get there sooner by helping us acquire more doctors, add more integrations, while also adding the best digital forms solution on the market to our platform.

I couldn’t be any prouder to welcome the Enlive team to NexHealth!

If you are passionate about accelerating healthcare innovation (and you should be after 2020!), reach out to me. We are on a mission to fundamentally reshape how digital healthcare is built. Here’s what we’ve already accomplished:

  • Raised $15M series A in the middle of lockdowns. Read more about the process here.
  • Built a strong exec team of early leaders from Netflix, Upwork, Optimizely, Marketo, Patientpop, and Lendinghome that have helped each company scale from <$10M ARR to IPO/exit.
  • Grew our team from 10 to 60 mission driven Nexers (NexHealth employees) coming from Intercom, Glassdoor, Divvy, Airbnb, and more.
  • Signed key customers like SmileDirectClub, Invisalign, Dental Care Alliance and more.
  • We grew our revenue by 170% and our user base by 388% in 2020
  • Most importantly, we help our customers serve 20M unique patients a month.

Join us in our mission to accelerate healthcare innovation.

I want to thank Mat Kaliski for reading drafts of this and helping me structure my thoughts.
